Exmissions

All Souls School Director, Dr. Jennifer Vest, works closely with each family as they prepare for their child to transition from All Souls to their next school for kindergarten, also called the “exmissions process.” Each year, the Director supports families as they go through the process of exploring and applying to a wide range of independent and public schools across New York City. Families receive personalized guidance as well as group meetings throughout the year covering school selection, applications, interviews, and child visits.
For families exploring the independent school option, the exmissions process starts the spring before the year when they will be applying out for their children. The Director has an informational meeting with all the families where she discusses the various facets of the process: the applications, school references (the ISAAGNY report), school visits for children, and parent interviews. She then meets with each family individually to discuss their thoughts and criteria about their child’s future schooling. Both group and individual meetings continue throughout the process, until families receive their kindergarten placements. Classroom teachers also play an important role, preparing the ISAAGNY reports and welcoming admissions teams for classroom visits.

For families considering public school, All Souls partners with Dr. Robin Aronow, a public school consultant who offers a September workshop and email updates for families about the public school application process. Dr. Aronow also includes information on gifted and talented programs, and specialized schools such as Hunter College Campus Schools and Special Music School.

Our goal is to help each child and family find a new school where they’ll continue to thrive—often leaving families saying, “We wish All Souls went through 12th grade!”
“We felt very supported throughout the exmissions process. Jennifer provided such thoughtful, clear guidance every step of the way, with feedback that really helped us understand the right fit for our child—for both independent and public schools. It made what is a dreaded and stressful process feel manageable and personal.”
